How the color-changing coating technology works:
The surface coating of the BMW iX Flow featuring e-ink contains many microcapsules, the diameter of which is the thickness of a human hair. Each of these microcapsules contains positively charged black pigments and white negatively charged pigments. Depending on the numbers chosen, stimulation by an electric field causes black or white pigments to aggregate on the surface of the microcapsule, giving the car body the desired colour.
