Ocean Electric from Fisker has a rotating central screen

EV startup Fisker unveiled the production version of its first electric vehicle, the Fisker Ocean SUV, at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The car is very similar to the prototype that debuted at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show. But there are some new notable features, including a 17.1-inch touchscreen that rotates from portrait to landscape orientation.

When you use your phone and write on it, you hold it like this," said Henrik Fisker, Founder and CEO of Fisker. And when you take a picture or if you want to watch a movie, you turn the phone like this.

He added: We have a screen in our car that changes with the press of a button from vertical to horizontal. It's spinning.

Fisker did not go into any further detail as to why the rotary touch screen the size of a small TV would be useful.

But buyers who want the screen have to pay $69,000. This is because it is available in the Ocean Extreme version.

A solar roof is also available on the Ocean Extreme, a feature promoted on the original prototype. The company says the panels are able to capture enough energy from the sun to make the car travel about 2,414 kilometers a year.

Ocean Extreme buyers get an even better sound system, heated front and rear seats, and a few other exclusive features.

The Ocean Ultra version costs about $50,000. The base Ocean Sport version costs $37,500. All three models come with the company's advanced driver assistance system.

Performance-wise, the company claims the Ocean Sport gets around 250 miles of range. The Ocean Sport draws power from the battery pack and sends it to a single motor at the front with a peak output of 275 horsepower. However, the company claims that it sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.9 seconds.

The Ocean Ultra and Ocean Extreme use a battery pack that allows for a driving range of 340 miles and 350 miles, respectively. Both models are equipped with an all-wheel drive system that uses two electric motors.

The twin motors in the Ocean Ultra generate up to 540 horsepower and can reach 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. While the Ocean Extreme gets 550 horsepower and sprints to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.6 seconds. Both versions offer torque vectoring, too.

All three models are capable of charging other electric cars or the owner's home, the company says, which is part of the start-up's larger mission of promoting clean energy.

This larger mission includes the use of recycled materials in the interior of the vehicle. and relying on hydropower at the factory where the SUVs are built and solar panels.
